Learn How to Edit or Delete Your Google Review

Understanding Google Reviews and Your Rights

Google Reviews is a platform where customers share their experiences with businesses, services, restaurants, hotels, and other establishments. When you leave a review on Google, you're contributing to a public database that helps other people make informed decisions about where to spend their money and time. Google processes millions of reviews every day across its platform, making it one of the most influential review systems in the world.

As the person who wrote a review, you have certain rights regarding that content. Google's policies recognize that people may change their minds, want to update their comments, or need to remove reviews they posted. This isn't a special privilege—it's a standard feature built into how Google operates. Whether you posted a review yesterday or years ago, the process for managing your content remains consistent.

It's important to understand that Google Reviews operates under specific community guidelines and policies. These rules apply equally to all users and help maintain the integrity of the platform. Google has teams that monitor reviews for violations of these policies, but individual users also have the power to manage their own contributions directly through their Google accounts.

Your Google account is the key to managing your reviews. If you signed in with your Google account when you left a review, that review is connected to your account permanently. This connection is what allows you to find, edit, or delete your reviews at any time without needing permission from the business or from Google support staff.

Practical takeaway: Before you attempt to edit or remove a review, confirm that you posted it while signed into a Google account. Reviews posted anonymously or without a Google account cannot be edited or deleted by the original reviewer, though Google may remove them if they violate community standards.

How to Locate Your Posted Reviews

Finding the reviews you've written is the first step in the process of editing or deleting them. Google provides several ways to locate your review history, depending on which device you're using and how recently you posted the reviews. The method you choose may depend on whether you remember which business you reviewed or whether you're looking for all your reviews across Google.

The most direct way to find your reviews is through your Google Account profile. Start by going to myaccount.google.com and signing in with your credentials. Once you're logged in, look for the section labeled "Personal info" or "Account." From there, you can navigate to settings that show your Google profile and review activity. This central location displays all reviews you've contributed across Google's network, which includes Google Maps, Google Search, and the Google Business Profile platform.

If you're using a mobile device, the process is similar but accessed through the Google Maps app. Open Google Maps, tap on your profile icon (usually located in the top right corner), and select "Your contributions" or "Your reviews." This will show a chronological list of every review you've posted. The mobile interface is designed for easy scrolling, so you can quickly browse through your review history even if you've written dozens of reviews over time.

Another method is to search for the specific business on Google Maps or in Google Search results. Once you find the business profile, scroll down to the reviews section. If you've posted a review for that business, your review should appear in the list with your profile name and photo (if you've added one to your Google account). You can often identify your own review by looking for your account name at the top of the review text.

When you locate a review you've written, you'll typically see options displayed near it. These options appear as small icons or a menu button (often three vertical dots) next to your review. Clicking or tapping this menu reveals the actions you can take with that review, including editing and deleting options.

Practical takeaway: Use your Google Account dashboard or the "Your contributions" section in Google Maps as your starting point. These centralized locations show all your reviews in one place, making it easier to manage multiple reviews rather than searching for individual business pages.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Editing Your Review

Editing a review means changing the text, star rating, or both after you've already posted it. This is useful if you want to update your experience with a business, correct something you said, or provide additional information that has become relevant since you first posted. Google's edit feature preserves the original date of your review while allowing you to modify the content itself.

To edit your review on a computer, first locate the review using one of the methods described above. Once you've found it, look for the menu button or options icon near your review. This is typically represented by three dots arranged vertically or horizontally. Click on this icon to reveal a dropdown menu. Among the options displayed, you should see "Edit review" or simply "Edit." Click on this option to enter editing mode.

When you click edit, the review interface will change to allow you to modify your text. The star rating section will become clickable again, meaning you can change the number of stars if you wish. You can revise any part of your written review, add new information, or remove content you no longer want included. The character limit for reviews typically remains the same, so you have plenty of space to express your thoughts comprehensively.

After you've made your changes, look for a button labeled "Update," "Save," or "Post" to confirm your edits. Clicking this button will save your changes and update the review across Google's platforms. The review will immediately reflect your new content, though there may be a slight delay before the changes appear in all locations where the review is displayed.

On mobile devices using Google Maps, the editing process is similar. Find your review in your contributions list or on the business's profile page. Tap the menu icon (three dots) next to your review and select "Edit review." You'll see the same editing interface with fields for your star rating and text. Make your changes and tap "Update" when finished. The mobile app will confirm that your changes have been saved.

It's worth noting that edited reviews retain their original post date. Google displays when a review was originally posted, not when it was last edited. However, businesses may see a notification that a review has been updated, which can draw attention to your changes.

Practical takeaway: Edit your review when you want to preserve the review itself but change its content. This approach works well if you want to update a rating based on a return visit or add important new information that affects your original assessment.

How to Delete Your Review Completely

Deleting a review means permanently removing it from Google's system entirely. Unlike editing, which keeps your review visible with updated content, deletion removes all trace of your review from the business's profile and from your contribution history. This is a permanent action that cannot be undone, so consider carefully before choosing to delete rather than edit.

The deletion process begins the same way as editing. Locate your review through your Google Account, Google Maps contributions, or by finding the business and scrolling to your review. Tap or click on the menu icon (three dots) next to your review to reveal your options. In the dropdown menu, look for "Delete review," "Remove review," or a similar option. Select this option to proceed with deletion.

Google typically asks you to confirm that you want to delete your review. This confirmation step is a safety feature designed to prevent accidental removal of reviews. The confirmation message will usually state something like "Delete your review?" with options to confirm or cancel. Click "Delete" or "Yes" to complete the removal process. Once confirmed, your review is removed from the business's profile and from your public contribution history.

The deletion is usually immediate, though it may take a few hours for the review to disappear from all locations where it appears on Google's platforms. You may still see your review in your own account history for a short period while Google's systems process the deletion, but it will no longer be visible to other users viewing the business's profile.

Some users choose to delete reviews for several reasons: they may have had a one-time problem that was resolved, they might have posted too harshly and regret the tone, or they may simply want to remove their personal information from the internet. Whatever your reason, the delete function removes that review permanently from public view.

One important distinction: deleting your own review is different from reporting a review for violation of Google's policies. If you're concerned that another person's review violates community standards, you can report it to Google, but you cannot delete someone else's review—only Google can do that through their moderation process.

Practical takeaway: Delete your review only when you're certain you want it completely gone. Since deletion is permanent and
